ANCYL Calls DA to Account
The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) will formally request the Public Protector to investigate allegations regarding Resolve Communications and the role of Tony Leon.
This decision follows a Constitutional Court judgment which found that the Democratic Alliance-led (DA) Western Cape Government and City of Cape Town failed to fulfil their constitutional obligations regarding equitable land access.
The ANCYL stated that the judgment confirms the DA remains fundamentally opposed to genuine transformation.
“Apartheid deliberately excluded Black people from centres of land ownership, economic opportunity and development. The preservation of that spatial order is, by its very nature, anti-Black.
“Rather than confronting this historic injustice, the Democratic Alliance has chosen to defend and preserve it,” said the party in a statement.
The youth league noted public revelations made by former leader John Steenhuisen regarding the alleged use of DA Ministers to advance the interests of private corporate clients and asserted that these actions undermine crucial transformation policies.
“If substantiated, these allegations point to a disturbing abuse of public office, the undermining of transformation policies and the manipulation of state institutions to serve entrenched private interests at the expense of the constitutional project of redress.”
The ANCYL emphasised that the DA must account to the people of South Africa and the relevant constitutional institutions, whilst revealing that they plan to incite the Public Protector to investigate this issue.
According to the statement, they further plan to lodge complaints with the Public Service Commission to also launch a probe into public officials whose conduct may have breached ethical obligations.
