President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially removed Sisisi Tolashe from her position as the Minister of Social Development. The dismissal, effective immediately, was executed in terms of section 91(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

The Presidency confirmed the move on Thursday afternoon but did not provide specific reasons for the sudden reshuffle. This high-profile exit leaves a critical vacancy in a department responsible for the country’s massive social safety net.

“President Ramaphosa has removed Sisisi Tolashe from the position of Minister of Social Development,” the statement confirmed.

In the interim, Sindisiwe Chikunga, the Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, has been appointed to oversee the portfolio in an acting capacity.

The President is expected to announce a permanent replacement for the social development post in due course.
