Scotland Scalp in Sight for Boks
The world champion Springboks are already preparing to host fifth-ranked Scotland at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria next Saturday, as they hope to carry on with their winning momentum after beating English 45-21 in their opening Nations Cup fixture at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg yesterday.
South Africa historically dominates this particular fixture against the Scots, having won 25 out of 30 previous encounters against them since 1906.
The Boks currently maintain a nine-match winning streak against the incoming visitors, including a convincing 32-15 victory at Murrayfield in their last meeting.
Despite having the upperhand, Springboks mentor, Rassie Erasmus, must navigate several late squad disruptions and medical updates after a bruising battle against England.
Prop, Ox Nche, is ruled out with a serious knee injury, while centre, André Esterhuizen, remains a doubt due to a concussion.
“Destiny took charge with our selection plans, but we remain incredibly upbeat about the depth of this group,” said Rassie after defeating England.
Skipper Siya Kolisi and lock Eben Etzebeth are both undergoing fitness tests to see if they can popularise the starting line-up.
