The Presidency has moved to reframe the national discourse around migration, pushing back against growing misinformation following the recent deaths of foreign nationals.

Officials insist that law enforcement investigations must be allowed to run their course without public interference.

Government challenged claims linking the deaths of Ethiopian nationals to migration tensions, stating that evidence points toward organised criminal activity instead.

Meanwhile, the South African Police Service continues to investigate the separate deaths of Mozambican nationals.

“No individual or organisation has the authority to take the law into their own hands,” stressed the Presidency.

To address international concerns, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) will engage with the World Health Organisation to ensure facts are verified.

This initiative aims to clarify the complexities of migration management and the State’s organised responses.

The executive body reiterated that enforcing immigration laws remains the sole responsibility of authorised state agencies rather than private citizens.
