The sudden death of Hoerskool Waterkloof Grade 11 learner, Zané de Jager, during a youth camp 20km outside of Brits in the North West province, has left her school and local community searching for answers.
De Jager passed away while attending a programme linked to the Voortrekkers - a cultural youth organisation focused on developing leadership, outdoor skills, and Christian citizenship through a structured programme rooted in Afrikaner heritage.
The circumstances surrounding her death are still unknown and questions are being raised about whether routine safety measures are truly sufficient for protecting young lives.
While many defend the organisation as a long-standing institution with rigorous safety protocols, others are calling for a full investigation into the circumstances of her death.
The incident has left many grappling with how a standard camp could result in such a devastating outcome.
