Councillor urges police to bolster their presence in the community after mass shooting
The Ward 17 and 18 councillor, Dwain Ponsonby, has called for a stronger law enforcement presence after two people were killed and six were injured during a mass shooting in Eldorado Park.
According to reports, the incident took place during a social gathering on Sunday. It is reported that eight unknown men entered the yard and opened fire on the crowd. Medical personnel declared two victims dead on the scene, and the six injured were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Ponsonby said the criminals act as if there are no consequences for their behaviour.
“It's really time that law enforcement starts doing what they have to do. The gunslingers are living as if there is no enforcement or law, or there are no consequences within our areas, and it seems like a thing that we are all okay with. We can never be okay with this,” he said.
Police spokesperson, Brenda Muridili, said they are still searching for the suspects and have urged the community to come forward with any information that might help the case.
