Johnson Gets Grilled at Madlanga

Advocate Andrea Johnson, head of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), revealed to the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry that prosecutor chiefs are deciding whether to charge her over criminal leak allegations.
The shocking disclosure comes amid claims that the anti-corruption boss improperly handed a confidential police docket to Major-General Feroz Khan.
Appearing before the commission, Johnson formally exercised her constitutional right against self-incrimination when questioned about her dealings with the embattled police officer.
She maintained that the inquiry’s mandate does not override her fundamental right to protect herself against potential criminal charges.
“These instruments guarantee my right against self-incrimination,” Johnson said during her testimony.
The high-stakes testimony has placed IDAC - South Africa’s top anti-corruption body - under unprecedented public scrutiny.
Further friction emerged as evidence leaders grilled Johnson over allegations that her unit solicited complaints from politicians to target specific police officials.
She heavily defended her directorate’s record, insisting that all ongoing investigations into senior police leadership are based strictly on genuine evidence.
Johnson argued that viewing these matters as a collective reveals a systemic pattern of State Capture rather than political targeting.
“When looked at holistically, the cases depict State Capture, fraud, corruption and defeating the ends of justice,” she stated in her submissions to the inquiry.
The National Prosecuting Authority is expected to finalise its decision regarding potential criminal proceedings in due course.
