A 43-year-old man has been reunited with his family after being rescued from a harrowing kidnapping ordeal that began in Kliptown.
On 9 January 2025, four armed suspects abducted the victim from his vehicle, prompting an intensive intelligence-driven operation led by Major-General Nhlanhla Kubheka.
While the victim was held, his family faced ransom demands and noticed several unauthorised bank withdrawals.
Using advanced technology, police tracked the suspects across various hostels in Soweto and Johannesburg.
The four suspects were subsequently arrested at Jeppe Hostel on 17 January 2025, leading to the victim's safe release from Mzimhlope Hostel.
This discovery led to four additional arrests in Diepsloot and Orlando.
All eight suspects appeared before the Lenasia Court yesterday to face formal charges of kidnapping and extortion.
“Further investigations linked the suspects to two more kidnapping cases opened last year in Jeppe and Diepsloot,” Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi stated.
