An institutional rift has widened within the criminal justice system following secret plans to arrest top police generals.

The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) bypassed the Police Ministry entirely when securing these high-profile warrants.

Acting Police Minister, Firoz Cachalia, only discovered the impending arrests of Crime Intelligence head, Dumisani Khumalo, and Major-General Nosipho Madondo through the media.

Cachalia criticised the complete failure to formalise communication lines regarding senior security officials.

He expressed deep concern over being excluded from developments that directly threaten national stability.

“I came to learn about the warrants through a newspaper article. I was not informed about the possible arrest of those generals,” Cachalia said.

Though the planned arrests are currently on hold due to security considerations, the incident exposes severe coordination failures between investigators and government officials.

This operational friction emerges as the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry probes state capture within law enforcement.

The commission continues to scrutinise allegations of corruption, political interference, and organised crime within security structures.

Observers warn that a failure to reorganise internal protocols will ultimately undermine public confidence in anti-corruption efforts.
