...urges nation to wear purple in a fight against GVB

Imagine this Friday, a sea of purple flooding the streets, shops, and schools. Not for a game but for a battle against something far more important. This is the vision of the national Springboks’ hero, Siya Kolisi.

Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) is one of the most critical issues South Africa is facing. It is a battle every community is fighting, this demands a united national response. Our rugby icon, the Springboks Captain, Siya Kolisi is leading the national pack with a very powerful request – that all South Africans wear purple in a fight against GBVF, both men and women, on Friday, 21 November 2025.

“And to the people at home, thank you for supporting us and wearing green every Friday. I know we have a big femicide issue in our country with gender-based violence.

“Next week Friday, you know women are in trouble and kids are in trouble and next week Friday - everybody normally wears green, but now I think we can change for purple to stand with our women,” Kolisi shared.

The statistics are raging, South Africa is rated one of the most dangerous countries in the world. Being a woman in South Africa is a huge risk.

This Friday, to redefine national colour for a day, purple will be the colour of courage, of compassion, and of change. Kolisi’s call is not just for rugby fans, but for all citizens to unitefor a safer future.

The whistle has been blown. Wear purple and be part of the change!
