The Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) has condemned the shooting of a Nigerian national in Johannesburg, describing the killing as “brutal” and “assassination-style”.
The fatal shooting of a man identified as Emeka Clement Uzor took place on Sunday afternoon at a garage in Windsor East, Randburg.
In a media statement released this week the organisation called for accountability and transparency in all investigations after confirmation that a murder case has been registered with the police.
Gauteng police spokesperson, Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, confirmed that police were investigating the incident and that a murder docket had been opened.
Police have also confirmed that the incident took place during the filming of an anti-drug operation linked to the television programme Sizok’Thola.
ActionSA has since confirmed that its Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate, Xolani Khumalo, who is a presenter of the show, was present during the operation when the fatal shooting occurred.
The party has defended the anti-drug campaign while acknowledging that police investigations are underway.
