Congolese-born South African, Mukengerwa Tresor Riziki, popularly known as just Tresor, etched his name in history by becoming the first African artist to be awarded the Courage of Art Award at the prestigious Res Publica International Awards in Italy.

The Res Publica International Award ceremony is a platform to promote peace, creativity, and civic courage. It solely honours the diverse contributions to peace and solidarity, environmental harmony, ethical journalism and the courage of art.

The singer, songwriter, and producer, has used his influence to inspire others to rise above what seems to be impossible and become the best they can be. The Courage of Art Award therefore comes as a tribute to his dedication and passion to utilising music as a tool for unity and change.

"I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive The Courage of Art Award from Premio Res Publica in Italy. This recognition is a reminder of why I create and who I create for,” said Tresor.

“Through art, I’ve found a way to shift the narrative of refugees and African youth to one that tells stories of resilience, beauty, and hope. This is a lifelong purpose, and I look forward to many more great things to come,” he added.
